Miches faces the Bay of Samaná from a shoreline of green hills, river mouths and coconut plantations that stayed untouched while the rest of the east coast filled with resorts. The new highway from Punta Cana changed that: Playa Esmeralda now hosts some of the most talked-about hotels in the country, while Montaña Redonda and the Redonda and Limón lagoons keep the landscape wild. Getting here needs a real private vehicle — and that is what we do.
Because it offers what the older resort strips no longer can: empty beaches with mountains right behind them. Costa Esmeralda stretches for kilometres of pale sand backed by hills, the water is calm inside the bay, and the new generation of hotels was built with low density and nature access in mind. Ten years ago Miches was a fishing town; today it is the most exciting coastline in the Dominican Republic.
Punta Cana (PUJ) is the usual arrival point: 95 km, roughly 1.5 to 2 hours on the coastal highway through El Seibo. From Las Américas (SDQ) the drive is 165 km, about 2.5 to 3 hours, and from Samaná El Catey (AZS) it is 105 km, near two hours. There is no commercial airport in Miches itself, so every arrival here is a road journey — one we make comfortable with air-conditioned vehicles, water on board and stops whenever you need them.
Taxis are scarce, ride-hailing apps do not work reliably outside the towns, and the last kilometres to some hotels and villas run on secondary roads. A dedicated vehicle with a driver who knows the route is the difference between arriving relaxed at midnight and hunting for transport in an unfamiliar town. Our rate is fixed door to door, however far off the highway your accommodation sits.
